You don’t need to keep up with the latest men’s fashion trends—but who are we kidding? When you’re trying to get the most out of your capsule wardrobe, fresh ideas never hurt. Menswear this season is all about being cool in a relaxed, heritage-inspired way. Think breezy preppy style, old-school athletic collars, moccasins you can throw on and go with, and lived-in barn jackets your grandfather might have owned.

On the materials front, hardworking cottons will have a very big spring in the form of lightweight sweaters, durable denim, durable twill outerwear, and crisp button-downs. Accent it with some leather shoes or linen pants and you’re set for the season ahead. Are you willing to give your existing lineup a much-needed makeover? We’re most excited to try these men’s fashion trends for spring 2025 right now.

1. The Ivy League

Preps, rejoice: We are so back. Some of the best menswear shows this spring, like Gucci, Valentino, and Wales Bonner, gave us new ways to combine preppy pieces. They were inspired by the smart, haphazard layering and pattern mixing that were popular on campuses of Ivy League schools. Throw a sports jacket over a t-shirt or polo and some just-wide-enough chinos to embrace the spring trend. With any of these items, loafers are the shoe of choice, and you can never go wrong with an up-to-date version of one of Ray-Ban’s most recognizable frames.

2. Cool In The Coast

Do we love the term coastal grandpa? No. But the TikTok trend does speak to a very real movement in menswear toward vintage-inspired pieces that feel coastal and lived-in—think lightweight shirting, rollneck sweaters, and boat shoes. Bottega Veneta, Emporio Armani, and Dries Van Noten’s spring-summer runways are very much on board, with silhouettes that are light and have a marine influence. Expert layering is the real trick here; tuck shirts under belts and sweaters, and let fisherman sandals peek out of wide-leg pants.

3. Dark Jeans

The denim of choice has been getting darker and darker over the past few years, and, coincidentally or not, men have been getting more and more interested in rigid, raw Japanese jeans. And now the logical conclusion of those twin trends is here: We only want to wear pure indigo denim. Selvedge denim, which is more durable than regular jean material, is available from J.Crew, Nordstrom, Buck Mason, and a plethora of other brands. On the other hand, Levi’s and Madewell offer stretch denim for less money. Try a full Canadian tuxedo with your jeans and top, which is now more fashionable than ever, or break things up with a white T-shirt or striped button-down.

4. Jackets For Barns

Barn jackets have gone supernova on their own, even though they fit into the rise of East Coast prep (see the first two entries on this list). These items are the ideal spring jackets because they combine long-lasting utility with casual vintage charm. They are light enough to wear with shorts, warm enough to keep you warm in chilly weather, and have all the pockets you’ll ever need for your many daily necessities. (In the end, who wants to carry a bag everywhere?) You can find takes by the likes of Prada and Margiela, but honestly, we suggest spending no more than $400 to stick closer to this workwear staple’s humble roots.

5. Retro Sportswear

It’s true that gym shorts and stretchy t-shirts have always been incompatible with capital-F fashion. However, the most exciting menswear shows of the spring challenged that dynamic with novel materials and references to the past. Check out the high-fashion soccer jerseys from Fendi and Louis Vuitton, the sporty half-zips from Auralee, and the up-to-date tracksuits from Martine Rose and Wales Bonner. With a shirt with a johnny-collar collar, sleek nylon pants, or even just trendy sneakers with a nod to the past, you can channel the same vibe. Why not get active and look good at the same time?

6. Massive Mocs

Bally and Miu Miu are to blame for the current craze for slim boat shoes. (We particularly enjoy Vince’s sleek, more cost-effective pair.) However, the more retro-styled lug-sole moccasins may be the better long-term investment. They fit right in with the coastal-cool style, but their timeless design and weatherproof soles make them more likely to become part of your all-season wardrobe long after this season is over. These styles, including the genre-defining mocs from Timberland, have been all over Paris and New York, and the bandwagon has never been more appealing.
